THERMOSTAT
The thermostat is a temperature-controlled valve that regulates the flow of coolant between the radiator and engine block. When the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed and coolant circulates only in the engine block. When the engine is hot, the thermostat is open and permits coolant to flow to the radiator where it is cooled before returning to the engine. The thermostat thus helps achieve and maintain optimum engine operating temperature.
